Customization: The Universal Advantage

Universal Window and Door sets itself apart from the competition by offering custom solutions and providing customer-driven guidance and support. Unlike many window manufacturers who offer standardized products, Universal focuses on delivering tailored solutions that address specific project needs. This enables architects and developers to meet the exacting historical requirements of the National Park Service and state and local preservation commissions – a vital component for securing historic tax credits (HTCs). Universal also offers custom window solutions for new construction and redevelopment projects, specializing in projects with complex architectural designs.

Advanced CNC Machining

Universal Window and Door utilizes CNC machining, which offers significant advantages over manual processes, including unparalleled precision and accuracy, repeatability, and uniform quality.

  • Bending: Historic windows often feature complex shapes, curves, and joinery that would be extraordinarily difficult or impossible to achieve manually. Intricate profiles, delicate mullions, and unique decorative elements can also be precisely cut to match original designs, ensuring an exact historic replication.
  • Repeatability: CNC bending ensures perfect repeatability – meaning that the 1,000th window will be an exact replica of the first.
  • Customization without Retooling: When design changes are called for, Universal can simply reprogram the CNC machine rather than building dedicated tooling – saving time and money on a project.

Custom Paint Booth

  • Flexibility with Colors: Universal can produce standard finishes, special color requests, and even Kynar 500® resin-based products that meet AAMA 2605 standards in-house.
  • No Minimum: Unlike competitors who often require large minimum orders, we can test-paint a single window.

In-House Pre-Assembly

Universal attaches and seals panning systems to windows in our shop – reducing on-site workloads and errors. A factory-controlled environment ensures consistent sealing and assembly, protected from job site weather and conditions, so the customer receives windows that are fully intact and ready to install. We also mull and seal windows together in our shop, so that twin or stacked windows arrive ready to install with minimal preparation.

Fabrication of Soft-Coat Low-E Glass

Universal Window and Door has been manufacturing double and triple-glazed windows since the 1980s.

  • High-Performance Glazing: Universal specializes in “soft-coat” Low-E glass, which offers superior energy performance compared to “hard-coat” options.
  • Quality Assurance: We are certified by Guardian Industries to properly handle and seal their products, ensuring longevity and performance.

Quality Assurance & Customer Support

Universal anticipates unstated customer needs, asks questions to uncover unique challenges, and offers innovative solutions for installation and performance. Unlike some window manufacturers, our responsibility to the customer does not end when the windows leave the factory.

Phone Support: Sales and technical support are available during business hours. If you’re not an established customer but have questions about historic windows for commercial buildings, we can help you find a solution.

Job Site Visits: As with all construction projects, unforeseen problems can arise. Universal can provide direct field service by our experienced Universal employees to resolve issues. We send our people – not outside consultants.
