Historic Applications

We design and manufacture all of our products at our Marlborough, MA facility, which combines state-of-the art technology with a workforce of dedicated craftsmen to provide historically accurate, energy efficient replica windows as well as custom solutions for new construction. By manufacturing all of our finished products in-house, Universal adheres to processes that not only ensure that we meet the exacting standards of the various historic accreditation agencies, but also guarantees the highest level of quality control. Our custom process also dramatically reduces lead time for customers who present unique design concepts.

Experience and Workmanship

Many of our craftsmen have been with us for twenty years or more, and our staff of approximately 75 employees has a combined 530 years of service with the company. Our hands-on approach allows us the flexibility to meet the most challenging of customer requests, and our precision CNC (computer numerical control) machinery ensures enhanced quality control standards in producing consistent high-performing window products.

We provide minimal sight lines with the structural strength of aluminum while offering multiple grid profiles which authentically reproduce the original look of old window putty lines. TrueWARM® warm-edge Technology assures unprecedented energy savings through the use of new, low transmission materials at the critical edge seal area of multi-layer glass (and Universal offers a full 15-year warranty on this patented, innovative process). Custom built mouldings and colors complete an historic restoration and styles include single and double hung, awning (tilt-out), casement and fixed window types.

By concentrating on the unique demands of the Historical Market, we have engineered and developed a line that has been approved by the National Park Service, and is accepted by Historical Societies that exist in virtually every city and town, including the Boston and New York Landmark Commissions. Features include:

  • Narrow sightlines to allow replication of existing margins
  • Dual grids to provide single pane appearance
  • Non-reflective dark spacers to eliminate the look of insulated glass
  • “Putty Line” matches that duplicate the original profile and dimension
  • Patented warm edge technology that assures maximum insulation properties
  • Baked-on finish to preserve the building’s appearance for life of the window and eliminates maintenance issues
